Samsung has announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud, integrating Google’s Gemini AI into its home robot, Ballie. This partnership aims to enhance the robot’s capabilities, allowing it to respond to a wide range of user queries and provide personalized interactions powered by Gemini’s multimodal abilities.
With the addition of Gemini AI, Ballie will offer a more advanced, interactive experience for users. Key features include:
Visual and Audio Integration: Ballie can now process both audio and video inputs, allowing it to provide tailored responses based on what it sees and hears. For instance, you could ask, “How am I looking?” and Ballie will offer outfit suggestions based on its camera’s analysis of your appearance.
Health Recommendations: Ballie will also tap into Gemini to offer personalized health-related advice, such as exercise routines and tips for improving sleep quality.
General Knowledge Queries: Beyond its specialized tasks, the robot will be able to answer a wide variety of general knowledge questions, making it a more versatile assistant.
Samsung’s Yongjae Kim, EVP of Samsung’s Visual Display Business, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion — one that moves with users, anticipates their needs, and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before.”
This integration aims to redefine the role of AI in the home, making Ballie a more responsive and adaptable assistant that goes beyond basic tasks.
Samsung has been showcasing versions of Ballie at major trade shows like CES for several years, and in 2025, the robot will finally make its way to consumers in South Korea and the U.S. during the first half of the year.
