Exciting news for Photoshop users! Adobe is introducing Generative Fill, a new AI-powered tool that allows you to extend images and manipulate objects using simple text prompts. This feature, powered by Adobe's AI image generator Firefly, was released as a web beta in March and is now launching in Photoshop's beta version.
Generative Fill works within individual layers, offering three options when expanding image borders or generating new objects. You can even leave the prompt blank and let the system work its magic, but providing direction yields better results. It's like Content-Aware Fill with enhanced user control!
Having witnessed a live demonstration, I must say Generative Fill is both impressive and still a work in progress. While some generated objects may not seamlessly blend with the image, it excels at filling blank spaces and mimicking light sources. It even creates reflections in water!
Integrating AI technology into mainstream apps like Photoshop broadens its accessibility. Creators and agencies concerned about legal implications can breathe a sigh of relief as Adobe claims Firefly is trained only on content with proper rights, ensuring commercial usage safety. Generative Fill also supports Content Credentials, providing attribution data that informs viewers if an image was created or edited using AI. This transparency empowers users and promotes ethical practices in sharing AI-generated content. Check credentials at verify.contentauthenticity.org!
"By integrating Firefly directly into workflows as a creative co-pilot, Adobe is accelerating ideation, exploration, and production," says Ashley Still, SVP of Digital Media at Adobe. Generative Fill combines generative AI speed with Photoshop's power, bringing visions to life in no time. #DigitalArt
Generative Fill is available now in the Photoshop beta app and the Firefly beta app module. The full release is expected in the second half of 2023. Adobe continues to incorporate AI tools across its suite, aiming to enhance user experiences and unleash creative potential. Stay tuned!
