Exciting news from Google! The tech giant is launching a virtual try-on feature for apparel in Google Shopping. Using generative AI, it shows clothes on real-life fashion models, predicting how they drape, fold, and form wrinkles and shadows.
The virtual try-on tool is powered by a diffusion-based model developed by Google. It gradually subtracts noise from an image, bringing it closer to the desired target. Google trained the model using pairs of images featuring people wearing garments in different poses.
Starting today, U.S. shoppers can virtually try on women's tops from brands like Anthropologie, Everlane, H&M, and LOFT. Men's tops will be added later. This feature aims to address the dissatisfaction shoppers feel when items look different online than expected.
Google's virtual try-on tech is not new, with other companies like Amazon, Adobe, and Walmart also exploring this space. However, Google's approach emphasizes using real models, representing diverse sizes, ethnicities, skin tones, body shapes, and hair types.
Alongside the virtual try-on, Google is introducing AI-powered filtering options for clothing searches in Google Shopping. Users can narrow their searches based on color, style, and pattern. It's like having a personal shopping assistant right at your fingertips!
