Microsoft has unveiled its natural language-based AI tool called Copilot, which combines large language models with its Microsoft Graph dataset to provide AI capabilities across its suite of applications including Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Copilot will offer a range of features such as identifying trends or making visualizations in Excel, brainstorming and generating drafts in Word, generating slides and adding transitions in PowerPoint, and creating summaries and generating action items in Teams. Microsoft plans to make the tool available to its billions of users through a separate application called Business Chat, which can provide information from sources like the user’s calendar, email, documents, and meetings. Google has also announced its own large language models for Google Workspace apps and Google Cloud.
Microsoft plans to charge extra for Copilot, which will be bundled with other services that are part of Microsoft 365.
