Microsoft Expands Free Access to Copilot AI Features - Think Deeper

3 min read Microsoft just made Think Deeper and Voice free & unlimited for all Copilot users. Now, you get deeper reasoning & hands-free conversations at no cost. But expect delays during peak times—Pro users still get priority. Smart AI expansion or strategic bait? What do you think? February 27, 2025 04:27 Microsoft Expands Free Access to Copilot AI Features - Think Deeper

Microsoft has announced that, as of February 25, 2025, all Copilot users now have free and unlimited access to two advanced features: Think Deeper and Voice. Previously available only to paid users or with restrictions, these features are now accessible to a wider audience at no cost.

The Think Deeper feature, powered by OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model, is designed to enhance Copilot’s ability to process complex queries and deliver more detailed responses. This makes it particularly useful for tasks that require deeper reasoning, such as planning, brainstorming, or problem-solving. However, due to its more intensive processing, users may experience slightly longer response times.

The Voice feature enables hands-free, conversational interaction with Copilot. Users can speak naturally, interrupt responses, and engage in extended dialogues across platforms like the Copilot app and website. Microsoft highlights its usefulness for tasks like practicing a new language or following real-time instructions, such as while cooking.

While these updates expand access, there are some trade-offs. Microsoft notes that peak usage periods may lead to delays or interruptions, as server demand fluctuates. Meanwhile, Copilot Pro subscribers ($20 per month) retain priority access to the latest AI models, along with early access to experimental features and deeper Microsoft 365 integrations. Microsoft has also suggested that more Pro-specific enhancements are on the way.

This move appears to address prior user concerns about hitting usage limits and aligns Copilot more competitively against other AI tools like ChatGPT, which often keep similar advanced features behind a paywall. Whether this shift represents a long-term democratization of AI capabilities or a strategic step to attract more users before introducing future premium features remains to be seen. The rollout began on February 25, 2025—just yesterday, as of today’s date, February 26, 2025.

Would this broadened access make you more likely to use Copilot? Let us know your thoughts.
