Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has expressed his concerns about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by "bad actors", who could use the technology to create scams and misinformation that are difficult to spot.
Wozniak called for AI content to be clearly labelled and for regulation of the sector to prevent misuse. He also warned that AI could make bad actors even more convincing, with programs like ChatGPT able to generate text that "sounds so intelligent".
While Wozniak doesn't believe that AI will replace people, he said that humans must take responsibility for anything generated by AI and posted publicly.
Wozniak wants big tech firms to be held accountable by regulators, but he is sceptical that the forces that drive for money will allow for proper regulation.
As a computing pioneer, Wozniak believes that we cannot stop the technology, but we can better educate people to spot fraud and malicious attempts to take personal information. Apple CEO Tim Cook has also stressed the importance of a thoughtful approach to AI integration.
