Exciting news from OpenAI! The AI research organization has announced the release of new versions of GPT-3.5-turbo and GPT-4, its latest text-generating AI models. GPT-4 introduces a fascinating capability called function calling, enabling developers to describe programming functions and have the models generate code to execute those functions.

Function calling opens up a world of possibilities, from creating chatbots that can utilize external tools to answer questions, to converting natural language into database queries and extracting structured data from text. This empowers developers to obtain reliable structured data from the models.

In addition to function calling, OpenAI is rolling out an enhanced version of GPT-3.5-turbo with a significantly expanded context window. The context window refers to the amount of text the model considers before generating additional text. The new GPT-3.5-turbo offers four times the context length, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of conversations.

While the expanded context window of GPT-3.5-turbo comes at a higher price ($0.003 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.004 per 1,000 output tokens), it offers increased capabilities, allowing ingestion of around 20 pages of text in a single go. OpenAI is also testing a version of GPT-4 with a 32,000-token context window.

OpenAI understands the importance of affordability and accessibility. That's why they have reduced the pricing for GPT-3.5-turbo by 25%. Developers can now utilize this model for $0.0015 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.002 per 1,000 output tokens, equivalent to approximately 700 pages per dollar.

Not only that, but OpenAI has also decreased the pricing for text-embedding-ada-002, a popular text embedding model used for search and recommendations. It now costs $0.0001 per 1,000 tokens, a 75% reduction from the previous price. This reduction is made possible by increased efficiency in OpenAI's systems.

OpenAI's focus is on incremental updates to existing models rather than creating entirely new models. CEO Sam Altman emphasized that the successor to GPT-4 is not yet in training, indicating the company's dedication to further research and development. Exciting times ahead in the world of text generation and AI!
